If you have any questions regarding this tour, please feel free to get in touch via Contact Us, otherwise we hope to see you on board for what should be a fascinating and memorable day of rail-touring and all in aid of a wonderful and deserving cause.

Enjoy some classic English-Electric horsepower as we take Hastings Diesels’ DEMU to Chinnor, the first tour to use the new mainline connection at Princes Risborough. PLUS, we venture further north to Wolverton where we go “under the boards” to Haversham Bank, before running to Bletchley where we move on to the seldom used flyover to reach the buffer-stops at Swanbourne.

Our train consists of the Hastings Diesels six-car DEMU.  This includes a buffet car providing light refreshments throughout the day, which passengers will be able to purchase and take back to their seats.

Our tour starts from Hastings and winds its way up to London via Tonbridge, diving under the Southern mainline at Clapham Junction before heading up to West London Junction. Here we turn left through South West Sidings to reach the North London Line, but only for a brief moment as we turn right at Acton Wells Junction, dropping down to Acton Mainline and on to West Ealing Junction.

We turn right here, taking the line to Greenford West Junction for a dash along the Chiltern Mainline to Princes Risborough. Here we make a little bit of history as we become the first railtour to traverse the new mainline connection between Network Rail and the Chinnor & Princes Risborough Railway.

This line was closed to passengers in July 1957 but remained open for freight trains serving the Chinnor cement works. Sadly, British Rail operated their last service on December 20th 1989. Happily, thanks to the hard work of everyone at the C&PRR, we can enjoy travelling over this line once again as well as perhaps catching a glimpse of the resident Class 17 “Clayton”. We shall have a break at Chinnor, allowing some photos and a leg stretch as well as an opportunity to visit the gift shop and buffet.

After returning to Princes Risborough we continue along the Chiltern Mainline to Leamington Spa where we turn right for Kenilworth and Coventry. Here we reverse and begin our journey on the West Coast Mainline via Northampton to Wolverton. Situated between the Up and Down Slow lines is the incline that gives access to Wolverton Works. Our tour moves onto the siding, dropping down below the mainline to clear the points that take us “under the boards” and then climbing back up on the Down Side to reach the stop-blocks at Haversham Bank.

Next we arrive at Bletchley where we branch left to reach the seldom-used flyover and then on along the former London Midland Varsity Line to the stop-blocks at Swanbourne Siding. Upon reversal, we head to Fenny Stratford and then we re-join the WCML for a dash to Wembley and West London Junction where we turn right for Kensington Olympia and back to Hastings.
